[ The first letter arrives sometime in early spring. It's raining, lightly.
A long time ago, or what seems like a long time ago, they made something like a promise.
They don't concern themselves about whether the recipient remembers or not; they said they would try, in their own way, and so here is the proof of it. What he does with it is up to him.
The handwriting is precise and neat and slightly cramped. The letter spans several pages, talking about places far beyond a small village; a vast and free-falling waterfall, a mountain range, a forest of bones (which the writer is vague on the details of).
A few sketches are provided; apparently the letter writer is an aspiring artist of sorts, as well. They're unpracticed and a bit clumsy, more than a little childish, but they're evocative in their own way. ]
I hope you receive this letter. I hope you are doing well.
If you want to reply there is a thing for praying a little way outside the village I think. It looks like this.
[ The scribble is a bit crude, but it looks recognisable enough. An old roadside shrine, no longer used or kept clean, its details lost to time. The only thing really left of its distinct features is the single spike jutting out of the top, and even that has been eroded somewhat. ]
Leave response there. I will get it.
[ There is no name, and no address.
How mysterious. ]
