"Okay." He doesn't ask permission to hold Gabriel's hand while he sleeps; he just holds onto it and shows no signs of letting go, as if that small point of contact can protect him from any number of things.

"I'll keep watch. If anything happens, I'll wake you up."

That promise made, he leans against the side of the chair, trying not to stare at Gabriel too much. (Sometimes he can't help it, though; his eyes flick over, then back to the door. Keeping watch as he promised.)
