temperedguardian: what the hand dare seize the fire? (on what wings dare he aspire?)

In Cassiel's not-terribly-humble opinion, they seem well entertained enough already. They don't seem to need two angels wrestling to keep them sated, but this is some sort of bizarre festival tradition and they should probably adhere to it.

"I will leave the inevitable comparisons to you."
Cassiel's long service had not involved humans very much, so they really have no notions at all about mortals. They had not particularly scorned them as God's failed project as the rest of the Council had, but neither had they tried to care for select sinners as Gabriel did; as usual, they fell somewhere in the middle, as they did for most things.

The other angel is faster; they know better than to try and outspeed him in a contest of reflex. With a normal opponent they'd try to divert the blow or dodge, not so with Gabriel. They simply take the hit and try to grab Gabriel's arm, lunging forward at the same time in an attempt to push him off-balance.
