edward nigma's melodrama power hour
Not many people come to see him willingly, so naturally, when someone actually wants to be in his hideout, he'll entertain them mostly out of pure curiosity (one of the only things that hasn't deadened over time
But when Edward describes the reason for his visit (or, more accurately, Jonathan drags it out of him by bits and pieces), he can't help but stare incredulously.
"You're doing this because a woman rejected you."
It's not particularly unfamiliar to him, though he'd rather die than admit it, but that was when he was a teenager, and neither of them are teenagers.
He sounds, as it happens, unimpressed. But he's not kicking Edward out, so it's probably a start.

He's wallowing.
He's wallowing and everyone should damn well be able to tell at a glance.]
Oh, of course you would downplay it! You probably haven't felt anything in years.
[Edward makes an offended noise as he glares at Jonathan.]
I'm doing this because my heart has been pierced. Pierced, Jonathan! Get it right.

I feel plenty of things. For example, right now, I feel remarkably tolerant towards the dramatics you're subjecting my furniture and I to.
[ He adjusts his glasses and completely ignores that glare. ]
You came to me to get sympathy, Edward.
What did you expect.

[He slumps down a little more.]
I don't know.
For you to tell me I'm right and I should be feeling horribly about everything?
